Father Alfred “Fred” Wendel returns to IHM as our pastor on July 1.
Father Fred was born in Seattle, but graduated from Clarkston High School in Stone Mountain. He attended the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. In his early 20s he served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany.
Father Fred was ordained to the priesthood in 1978 in Cheyenne, Wyoming and served numerous parishes in Wyoming and in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. He was IHM’s pastor from 1998 to 2002. In 2008 he returned to active duty as an Army chaplain. He most recently served as director of the UGA Catholic Center in 2020-21.
Father Fred enjoys working out, racquetball, long distance cycling, playing piano, traveling and building things with Legos! Join us for a welcome reception in his honor following each Mass on July 1-2 in the church lower level.
