The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA - also known as RCIA) is the process appointed for adults who, responding to God's grace, wish to become full members of the Catholic Church. The RCIA is intended for those who:
Have never been baptized and would like to become part of the Catholic Church through the sacrament of Baptism
Have been baptized in another Christian community and seek full communion with the Catholic Church
Have been baptized Catholic as children but have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.
Based on the ancient practice of receiving new members into the Christian community, the OCIA is a spiritual journey that passes through several stages of prayer, discernment, and instruction in the Catholic way of life. The climax of the process occurs at Easter, when those who have been preparing to receive the sacraments are baptized, confirmed, and welcomed to the Eucharistic table.
OCIA sessions are held in the church's lower level on Wednesday nights, 7:00-8:30 pm, beginning August 28. For the first several weeks, no formal commitment is required. If you're curious about the Catholic Church, please join the conversation.
