The Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children is the practice of the Church for preparing non-baptized children, ages 7-17, for full participation in the sacramental life of the Church. These children or teenagers:
Have not been baptized and would like to be received fully into the Catholic Church through baptism.
Have been baptized in another Christian community and seek full communion with the Catholic Church.
Have been baptized Catholic as infants but have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist at the customary times.
RCIA, adapted for children, is a two-year, four-step process that takes place within the community of the faithful.
Families in this process should be prepared to do the following:
Attend at least two interviews.
Participate in the Rites.
Attend weekly Mass.
Attend two years of preparation sessions.
Attend one retreat.
Each child will also need a sponsor. Sponsors must be active and practicing Catholics.
